Strong Winds 3

Finally, a couple more pictures from the other side of the Harbour Arm. The trick here was to get some photographs before the lens got covered in spray. It’s exhilarating being so close, hearing the waves crashing and feeling the spray on your face (and tasting the salt when you lick your lips).

Not all of the fishing fleet was in, you can see the drag marks of a few of the boats to the left. When you need to make a living a bit of wind doesn’t get in the way.

Luckily not, I was on the Harbour Arm overlooking the scene!

Pictures like this are always spectacular, natures forces in full action.

The comment about the fishermen having to make a living, a wind blowing onto the beach like this would prevent the small fishing boats from being launched, so not much of a living is made on stormy days.

At the Fishermens Museum which is just opposite the new block of flats showing in the picture [black and white to the right of the East Hill Lift] is a short film about a fishing boat trying to land in seas that are not as rough as those depicted above.
The film is dramatic, and demonstrates in a few minutes the hazards of making a living at sea.
