Red Roofed Hut at Rye Harbour

Red Roofed Hut at Rye HarbourThe Red Roofed Hut at Rye Harbour. It’s been there as long as I can remember. It’s been photographed lots and is also the inspiration for plates, mugs and cup and saucer set.

Why is it there? What is it’s purpose? I hadn’t thought to wonder until I required content for this post. Google, as usual, comes up with the answer.

The date it was first built is not known, but was in use from the early 1900’s. Unsurprisingly it appears to have been used to store fishing and shrimping equipment. It was known as Gran’s Hut, at least by the grandchildren of the woman that owned it. You can read the full article here.

So there you go, the original purpose of the Red Roofed Hut at Rye Harbour is revealed.
