I went on holiday to Lake Garda earlier in the year. The best way of travelling around the lake is to use the ferry service.

The ferries connect all of the towns and villages on the lake, run on time (at least whilst we were there), and are very reasonably priced. On this day we decided to travel by ferry from Sirmione to Desenzano del Garda.

The ferries are all of a different design. The one we caught had a big window on a lower deck looking out to the stern. This allowed travellers to see the Sirmione port recede into the distance.

We arrived too late to site right by the window. A couple and their dog were there. However, I thought the scene made a nice composition.

The day was bright, clear and calm. The dog was happy. Rather than use the photograph, I thought I would make a painting of the scene. This gave me the opportunity to remove the multitude of seats, tables and leave a cleaner image. I may do three versions of this, one with just the dog, this one and then one with the couple and the dog.
