An original digital painting from a photograph taken at Lake Garda, Italy. It shows a masted ship, or ketch named San Nicolo in silhouette as it glides across the calm water.
I took the original photo several years ago, the first time I visited the lake. Sat with my wife by the lake side, it was one of those early evenings that remains in the memory. The sun was dimmed by a light mist and it was very calm. The San Nicolo appeared, moving silently back towards port. I was fortunate to get a photo that captured the scene and feeling. The photo was taken on a camera with film and I’d lost the negatives, so I thought it would make a good digital painting.
